Highlights – School Board meeting of December 14, 2005

The Menlo Park City School District Board of Education held its regular meeting in December. It also held a Special Meeting and the Annual Organization Meeting on the same date Highlights of the December 14, 2005, meeting of the Board are presented for your information. The next School Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton. Highlights of the December 14, 2005, Special Board Meeting:

  • The Board heard an appeal filed by a District parent regarding a Uniform Complaint related to student class assignment practices.

Highlights of the December 14, 2005, Regular Board Meeting:

  • Hillview teacher Willy Haug was honored by the Board with a Resolution for his achievement of National Board Certification. Mr. Haug teaches English, social science and other electives.

  • The Board heard the perspective of a parent on the leadership at Laurel School.

  • Community volunteer Marian Hill presented information to the Board on her projected enrollment report for the District.

  • Superintendent Ranella highlighted input received from District School faculties and various parent and community groups at the recent presentations made by the Superintendent and Board Members Rich and Thygesen.

  • The Board unanimously approved the 2005-06 First Interim Budget Report, certifying that the District will be able to meet its financial obligations.

  • The Board unanimously approved the Superintendent’s recommendation to employ Brie Weinand as the District’s Occupational Therapist, effective February 1, 2006.

  • The Board voted unanimously to approve and adopt revisions to Board Policy 5116.2, Class Size and School Assignments, and Board Policy 5116.1, Intradistrict Open Enrollment.

 

Highlights of the December 14, 2005, Annual Organization Meeting

The Board elected Trustee Laura Rich as President of the Board and Trustee Nancy Serrurier as Clerk of the Board.
