Highlights – School Board Regular meeting of November 9, 2005

 

The Menlo Park City School District Board of Education held its regular meeting in November. Highlights of the November 9, 2005, meeting of the Board are presented for your information. The next School Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton. Highlights of the November 9, 2005, Board Meeting:

  • A review of the 2005 Accountability Progress Report, including information on the State Academic Performance Index (API) results, the Federal Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) results, and Federal Program Improvement (PI) results, was presented by Assistant Superintendent Jo Sauer Mitchell. District and school summaries of participation rates and percentage of students scoring proficient or above in English-language arts and mathematics along with the District’s overall and subgroup percentages as compared to neighboring districts were shared.

  • Results of two staff surveys related to the implementation of Differentiated Instruction were shared by Assistant Superintendent Jo Sauer Mitchell.

  • The schedule of presentations to District faculties, PTOs and the Community regarding Facility and Master Planning Presentations was confirmed. The presentations, beginning on November 9 through December 8, will culminate on December 8 with the 7:00 p.m. Community Meeting at Hillview School.

  • Two Board Policies, 5116.2 – Class Size and School Assignments, and 5116.1 – Intradistrict Open Enrollment, were presented for a second reading and discussion. Further discussion and possible action will be scheduled for the December 14 regular meeting of the Board.

  • The School Based Coordinated Programs/School Site Plans for 2005-06 submitted by Laurel, Encinal, Oak Knoll and Hillview Middle Schools were unanimously approved by the Board.

  • The Board voted unanimously to approve the submission to the California Department of Education of a Waiver (Request for Allowance of Attendance Because of Emergency Conditions) for the closure of Oak Knoll School on October 7, 2005.

  • Resolution 05.06.12, designating the Superintendent and Chief Business Official, along with James Patton, Consultant to the District through RGM and Associates, as representatives of the District to the Office of Public School Construction and the State Allocation Board in School Facilities Program projects was unanimously adopted by the Board.
