Highlights – School Board Special and Regular Meetings of November 15, 2006 

The Menlo Park City School District Board of Education held a special meeting and its regular meeting on November 15, 2006. Highlights of these meetings of the Board are presented for your information. (The text of Official Minutes is posted to the District Website following Board approval.)


Highlights of the November 15, 2006, Special Board Meeting

Retiring Board Members Carol Orton and Nancy Serrurier were honored with a special presentation and reception in their honor. Resolution 06.07.07, in honor of Carol Orton, and Resolution 06.07.08, in honor of Nancy Serrurier, was unanimously adopted by the Board. Many well-wishers shared their memories in honor of the two retiring members of the Board. A donation to the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Association (MPAEF) was made on their behalf by the Menlo Park Education Association (MPEA), and a special resolution from MPAEF was also presented. Mrs. Orton and Mrs. Serrurier shared their thoughts on having served on the Board and expressed their thanks and appreciation to everyone.


Highlights of the November 15, 2006, Regular Board Meeting

  • Information was presented by Menlo Park City Manager David Boesch on the Menlo Park Community Redevelopment Agency.
  • A special presentation was made by Total Compensation Systems Inc. on the unfunded cost of District retiree benefits as reported in the Actuarial Study of Retiree Health Liabilities.
  • Superintendent Ranella welcomed Maria Clemo as Interim Principal at Encinal School, and Joan von der Linden as Interim Vice Principal at Oak Knoll School.
  • Design Guidelines for Site Committees were presented for review by the Board.
  • Special meetings of the Board regarding Hillview Middle School scheduled for January 24 and February 28 were rescheduled to January 30, and March 6, 2007.
  • Following a Public Hearing, the District’s response to the California School Employees Association (CSEA) initial proposal for the 2006-07 school year was unanimously adopted by the Board.
  • Teachers Curriculum Institute, History Alive! California Middle Schools Program (6th: The Ancient World; 7th The Medieval World and Beyond; 8th: The United States through Industrialism) was unanimously adopted by the Board.
  • The names of Laura Rich, David Mineta and Maria Diaz Slocum were placed in nomination by the Board for the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly.
  • Encinal School was congratulated on behalf of the Board for its nomination as a California Blue Ribbon School.

A special meeting of the Board was held on December 6th, regarding Hillview Middle School and a regular Board meeting was held on December 13th. Highlights of these meetings will be available following Board approval in January 2007.

 

The next Regular School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office, 181 Encinal Avenue, Atherton.
