| Background:
The Teacher Educational Resource Center (TERC) has been recognized as a critical project by the School Board and is a listed Bond project. At the October 25, 2006, Special Board meeting the Board approved placement of the TERC at the Encinal Site. At the December 13, 2006, Board meeting, the Architect provided the Board an update on the design concept of the TERC. The Architect worked with the staff and District Facility Committee on further defining the needs of the TERC through multiple user group meetings. On January 16, 2007, the Architect made a second presentation of the TERC preliminary plans and the Board authorized design development.

Project Overview:
The TERC will provide space for existing programs that are served throughout the school sites and occupy 5 portable classrooms and additional storage space. The spaces occupied by these programs are needed to accommodate the new construction at each school site. The TERC will provide a permanent location for the technology group, teacher training and meeting room, science program and distribution, space for existing specialty teachers and support (BTSA/Reading Specialist), offices for the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation, storage space, staff office space, and materials distribution. The proposed TERC is approximately an 11,900 square foot building.
The TERC is a joint use project with the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation. As a joint use project the School District is eligible for state grant money of 1 million dollars. The District has started the application process with the Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) and the California Department of Education (CDE). Based on a preliminary response from OPSC, the District will qualify for the $1 million grant.
The scope of this project will include a new, approximately 12,000 SF, building that will house the District’s Technology group, Teacher Training Conference Room, Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation, Curriculum Material Distribution Center, as well as, housing for the District’s Maintenance group, a Science Resource Center, office spaces, and District-wide storage space. The building will be mainly single story with the back side as a 2-story building for storage and office space. Included in this project are site improvements and parking lot to accommodate staff for the District, TERC, and Encinal School. The building is a joint-use project with the Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation and is eligible for State Funding.
